Lon J. Lutz, MD has been practicing Interventional Pain Medicine in the greater Twin Cities area since 1991. Dr. Lutz is a founder of the HealthEast Pain Center in St. Paul and has practiced at that location since 1992. He has since expanded his practice to provide service at a number of Twin Cities locations, including High Pointe Surgery Center in Lake Elmo and Minnesota Valley Surgery Center in Burnsville. Dr. Lutz focuses his practice primarily on diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to chronic and painful conditions of the spine and extremities.
Originally from Adams County North Dakota, Dr. Lutz received a BS degree with Honors in Pharmaceutical Sciences form North Dakota State University in 1980. He went on to graduate Alpha Omega Alpha from the University of North Dakota Medical School in 1985. His Post Graduate training includes 2 years of General Surgery at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis and an Anesthesiology Residency at the Mayo College of Medicine in Rochester, MN, which included additional training in Neuroanesthesia and Interventional Pain Medicine. Following completion of his Residency at Mayo College of Medicine, Dr. Lutz served as an Associate Consultant in Anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic Rochester where he provided instruction and training to medical students and residents, as well as maintaining a clinical practice in Anesthesiology and Interventional Pain Medicine. Dr. Lutz completed Board Certification in Anesthesiology in 1991 and from the American Board of Pain Medicine in 1994.
Dr. Lutz has been actively involved in the Spine Intervention Society (SIS) since its inception in 1990. He currently serves as a Senior Level Instructor and has attained Masters Level Certification in Interventional Pain Medicine from that organization. He regularly provides instruction on the safe and effective performance of various procedures to aspiring Interventional Pain Physicians from various disciplines.
